On November 2013, the land that the Veterans Memorial Park is now constructed om what was home of the village Post Office which tragically burned down. The landowner who is a veteran himself was gracious enough to dontate the land to the village, on the condition that the land would be used for the developement of a Veterans Memorial Park.

On September 2015, the Tremont City Veterans Park was officially given the designation ofbeing a "Purple Heart Village." This fell on September 5, 2015 known as "Purple Heart Day" that the Village of Tremont City officially declares the Saturday before Labor Day.

Tremont City has a long history of military service through it's population. During the Civil War, an Infantry company was formed from a group of men that were village residents.  Many families had multiple service members that fought for our great Nation. One family in particular currently has three serving, with 13 members dating back from WWII to present.
